How to check root canal for infection or cavitation?

Resolved Question:

I have candida / parasite like symptoms with mainly blood sugar dysregulation, brain fog, and fatigue.

I'm already waiting for results from a comprehensive GI lab test that my doc prescribed. Although I am very concerned that the underlying cause or contributing factor may be my root canal. Possibly containing infection or cavitation.

I am 20 years old and got a root canal with just a filling about 11 years ago and broke the fillings multiple times until getting a bridge, and ever since then it stayed put.

How/where can I get it checked for infection or cavitation?

Do routine dentist checkups check for infection or cavitation in root canaled tooth? Thank you so much.

Anthony Bray MD : Hello!
Anthony Bray MD : You bring up several issues here....
Anthony Bray MD : yes your dentist would check for infection , first if all...
Anthony Bray MD : You could be potentially checked for general infection with your doctor checking a CBC with differential( = complete blood count with a breakdown of the subtypes of white cells--- the cells that fight infection)
Anthony Bray MD : Some of your symptoms could have very different possible causes--- you mention "brain fog" and this could be due to hypothyroidism , sleep deprivation( this could range from insomnia to sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea) , B-12 deficiency, mononucleosis and other possible medical issues. The point is that this complaint brings up a wide variety of possible causes. Also depression could be a cause for another example.
Anthony Bray MD : If you had a dental infection then I would expect that you would have gum inflammation and tenderness as symptoms.
Anthony Bray MD : Do you have GI problems? Diarrhea or other ?? I ask this due to your suspicion of a possible GI infection.... Your history so far has not been striking to me as being really suspicious for this....
Anthony Bray MD : Fungal infections internally are not common in the normal patient with a good normal intact immune system... Skin fungal infections are common though but these would not typically cause systemic symptoms....
Anthony Bray MD : Also parasitic infections are not very common in the US.... If you have diarrhea then a parasitic GI infection then it would most typically present as diarrhea. Travel outside the US would be a risk factor.... Well water would be a risk factor ... Giardia would be a possible pathogen in this regard ....camping and drinking from outside streams would be a risk factor for this as well....
Anthony Bray MD : Fatigue as a symptom is also a very broad symptom with many potential causes. The TYPE and QUALITY of your fatigue may give clues as to the cause. For example if you get tired with exertion and short of breath easily then this would lead in one direction. If you have sleepiness during the day then this would be a different direction implied....
Anthony Bray MD : Hypothyroidism, sleep disturbances may cause drowsiness....
Anthony Bray MD : anemia, iron deficiency, pulmonary problems( such as asthma as example) or heart problems or deconditioning could cause fatigue with shortness if breath or poor tolerance of exercise....
Anthony Bray MD : i hope this information is helpful for you! Let me know if you have further questions and I will be happy to get back with you!
Anthony Bray MD : if my answer has been helpful and to your satisfaction then please remember to leave positive feedback. That would be very much appreciated. Thank you and best regards,
