How long should a person remain on warfarin after a pulmonary embolism
Hello, this is Dr. David. I have read your question and am ready to help.

it depends on how large the PE was. most doctors treat with coumadin for 6-12 months after the PE. also if you have a cancer which increases your risks for PE then you can need to stay on the coumadin as long as you have cancer.

do you know how large your PE was?

I am not sure of the size of the clots
talk to your doctor about the size of the clots and see how long they want to keep you on warfarin. most likely they will keep you on the warfarin for 6-12 months.
