Looks like a case of herpes labialis - cold sore
Ask your physician or dentist for a prescription for the drug acyclovir in its cream form. Apply to the cold sore as directed for speedy healing. This medicine works best when a fever blister is in its early stages.Read more: http://www.livestrong.com/article/22069-rid-cold-sore-fast/#ixzz231OPgSE9
Use an over-the-counter ointment containing povidone-iodide (a disinfectant) for your cold sore if you do not obtain a prescription medication. This cream is directly applied to the sore and is helpful in reducing symptoms in some individuals. Aloe vera cream may be useful for some other people
Using vaseline locally,
how long will it take to get rid of it
ice compresses locally, and using a sun screen will help too,
Very importantly DO NOT keep on touching/ pricking or removing the scabs (if any)
this will delay healing
The best case scenario is 3 - 5 days,
should i ask my doctor to prescribe anything?
especially if you manage to get the prescription Acylovir cream ASAP
Acylovir cream would be very helpful
if there are a lot of blisters, oral acyclovir tablets may help too
can i get the tablets over the counter?
No acyclovir ...
is not available OTC
got it, will do, thanks doc
other medications like aloe vera cream and disinfectant like povidone iodine is available OTC though
