Dear customer,

You were prescribed mupirocin ointment for local application to the area.
The valacyclovir drug as well. Was it also in a cream form or the oral tablet.

If oral tablet then in what doses?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Oral Three times a day.

Dear customer,

That means you were prescribed valacyclovir 1gm three times a day?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.
Yes, along with the use of Mupirocin ointment twice a day.
Dear customer,

Thank you for the information,

Yes its true that the dose of valacyclovir is to be reduced in patients with kidney disease. It depends on the creatinine clearance.Since your creatinine levels are 3.8mg/dl so the dose of it has to be reduced.

The normal recommended dose is 1gm three times a day but in your case it has to be reduced.

Your creatinine clearance is approx 15 ml/min so your dose will be 1gm in 24 hrs.So you may consult him/nephrologist for the correct dosage prescription.

Both my MD;s are away for the weekend. What should I do? The sheet with the Vac....says to start ASAP. Pl;ease advise.
Dear Customer,

You may start the drug today in 1gm stat dose as it will be effective in preventing the disease.Though you should take only 1gm per day since your creatinine levels are high 3.8mg/dl.

The dose should be in low dose for patients with kidney disease. After 2 days when your Md are available then you reconsult them for the correct dosing.

here is more info on the drug
