Greetings, How long the symptoms are there?
How many times did you have diarrhea?
Is there any other symptom? nausea? vomiting? fever?
I am waiting for your replies.
I have had symptoms for about 12 hours. My tummy feels upset but I have not actually vomited and I don't think I have a fever. The frequency of the diarrhea seems to be getting worse.
Is your urine output normal?
I have no pain when i urinate
Is there any blood with stool?
You are probably having gastroenteritis or an infection. In most cases it is viral. .
Sometimes bacterial & other infections can be there.
It is mostly food or drink related.
Try to take plenty of fluid & electrolytes like oral rehydration fluid, gatorade starting in small frequent sips.
This can lead to dehydration otherwise. .
it feels like fire every time i go :(
do i use preparation H
This is due to irritation of anus from repeated passage, rubbing.
You can use it.
This can help to reduce the irritation.
Urine output should be watched. If it decreases it can suggest dehydration.
If you can not retain enough food and water, then you can develop dehydration & needs to be treated urgently with IV fluid.
Consultation in the ER would be a good idea then.
Stool testing, antibiotics can be needed if it is a bacterial one.
Pepto Bismol can be taken.
is this from someone who was preparing my food most likely 24 hours prior to onset of symptoms. Someone who had the virus and passed it to me? Or is this from the food being old?
Both are possible.
I am 40 and have never had anything like this. How long does it last and how do I avoid my family from getting it?
I wash my hands obsessively
Viral ones usually gets better by 3-5 days, often earlier.
Please wash your hands as you are doing.
Hand washing by family members before taking food would be helpful.
I also have started eating a mostly vegi diet with less carbs the last couple days. I have not cut carbs entirely. This morning I took ephedrine and a caffine and I do that once in a while. Could this have anything to do with it?
It is better avoid caffeine. Light tea can be taken.
Rice, banana, toast, yogurt are good.
Avoid leafy vegetables.
Boiled potato can be taken.
so if this does not go away in 3-5 days i should see a doctor?? Or as you said if I am not frequently urinating.
Yes, take plenty of liquid to prevent dehydration.
Electrolyte solution like gatorade can be taken.
If the symptoms get worse or continue more than 3-5 days, then consult doctor soon.
is it supposed to get less frequent each day if it is viral? I dont know how long I can keep this up and it would be really hard to leave the house.
Taking rest can help in viral episode.
are trips to the bathroom supposed to start becoming less frequent as time goes by if it is viral?
Actually, there is no hard and fast rule.
Sometimes, viral diarrhea can be severe.
thanks so much.....my kids have pedialite pops in the fridge....I will have one for breakfast and drink water and eat what you suggested.
Taking adequate fluid is vital to prevent weakness, dehydration.
Pedialite can be taken.
thanks for spending so much time..........I gotta run!
