I sprained my ankle three hours ago. I am fairly it is a sprain and not a break as I can bear a little weight and even take steps with pain. The pain however is pretty bad. Do I need to be seen by a Doctor? I do not drive, and with the pain it will be most difficult to get to the ER. Thank you for your kind assistance.

If you can walk more than 4 steps, most likely it is a sprained ankle.
Not a fracture
Take over-the-counter pain medication
ice pack
compression: compress the ankle with an elastic bandage until the swelling stops.
Don't wrap it too tightly or you may hinder circulation. Begin wrapping at the end farthest from your heart. Loosen the wrap if the pain increases, if the area becomes numb or if swelling occurs below the wrapped area.
Use an ice pack for 15 to 20 minutes and repeat every two to three hours while you're awake, for the first 48 to 72 hours.
give yourself relative rest.
To reduce swelling, elevate your ankle above the level of your heart, especially at night.
Many people simply treat their injury at home.
If you feel numbness or the pain is getting worse in spite of the home remedies,
you don't feel pulses in the foot
you can't move the foot or toes,
you should go to the ER.
Otherwise, you should see your doctor tomorrow to have an exam
Did you take any pain medicaton?

If the pain is not better with the pain medication, you should go to the ER.
You may take tylenol.
You should see your doctor tomorrow or the day after tomorrow to have the ankle checked.
S/he may give you a brace or air stirrup for protection and to promote soft-tissue healing.
