Thanks for the question and coming on Just Answer. I would like to say that the lump on the neck or base which moves on swallowing can be due to thyroid nodule or thyroid related swelling. It is strong likely to be due to thyroid dysfunction. Also important to rule out any dermoid cyst, lipoma, lymphoma (less likely). I will repeat again that this is thyroid related swelling and urgent scan is very important and might need to have biopsy as well later on to rule out any thing serious.

Why have I got a swelling on one side of my neck, people have started to notice my lump and swelling and stare, this is making me feel worse, should I worry?

I would say that thyroid swelling or nodule can appear any side of the neck. You should not worry right now but urgent scan is needed along with few other tests such as biopsy. Most of the time the swelling is non-cancerous (not cancer) and this can be treated easily in case of thyroid problem which seems to be in your case.
