Customer Question

I am on atenolol 50 mg/daily for HBP. Also on Cozaar 50 for the same problem. Here is my issue. It is a holiday weekend. I didn't realize that not only am I out of atenolol... the script is out of refills. I do have metoprolol tart 25 mg in the house. It's not mine, but belonged to my mom. I am worried about skipping a dose of a BP med for even one day. Can I, in an emergency, take some of the meto to carry me through the holiday until I can reach my own dr on Tuesday? And if so, how much?

Hello
Metoprolol and atenolol are not interchangeable.
And we can not manage your meds for you.

Here is a good description of lopressor dosing

http://www.drugs.com/dosage/lopressor.html

A typical stating dose might be 100 mg once a day, or 50 mg twice a day.

Most doctors offices have a call service..so if you call the office and get to that service and ask for the doctor on call then you can get some assistance that way.

Even offices without a call service have a call back option of some sort in most areas.

Use reply if you need to clarify

I don't need my meds managed, but I am w/o a dose tonight and the pharmacy is closed. What do you recommend in this circumstance?

As I recommended above.
If your doc has no way of getting you in touch with anyone on call, then the ER or urgent care, quick care, etc..can give you a couple days if your regular meds.
You simply have to see a doc.
