My blood pressure is high at doctor office (I always get very nervous there). In two consecutive visits it was 130/90, however at home is normal (between 125/80 and 106/75 during the day) and measured with an blood pressure monitor (checked by the doctor's office). However the doctor is not a believer in these devices and prescribed a light diuretic (Dyazide 37.5 mg.). The blood work is normal with the exception of cholesterol 268 and triglycerides 266, and we are trying to loose some weight in order to bring down these values.I would like to ask your opinion on initiating this treatment. Thanks a lot.

Hello
Thanks for your question.
Your blood pressure is normal at home.
You should check your blood pressure everyday at home.
And better way to find out if you truly have high blood pressure is to order an ambulatory continuous blood pressure monitoring.
Hence, you may not need the diuretic at this point.
Try to cut down salt in your diet less than 2 grams daily.
low sodium heart healthy food should be your priority.
regarding cholesterol and triglycerides. follow a high fiber low fat diet.
So, the diet to lower my cholesterol might actually also benefit the BP
red yeast rice extract, oyster mushrooms, almonds, okras will reduce your cholesterol significantly.
yes correct
fish oil supplement and niacin also will help.
ok ... thanks a lot. I needed a second opinion from a doctor on this.
