I had neck surgery April 4th. My incision is still healing.

Customer Question

I had neck surgery April 4th. My incision is still healing. The last two days I've had a very bad headache and not felt well. My skin from my shoulders to my head becomes hot and burns. This evening a stitch that had been protruding since the surgery came out along with yellow puss. The incision is still very sore and tender and I have several areas that are raised and stitches are visible below the skin. I located amoxicillin in my cabinet and have begun taking what I have of it. How serious could this be and can it wait until I am able to call the doctor's office Monday morning? I'm afraid the other raised areas where stitches are visible may also be puss filled as they too are tender and achy. Thank you - Amanda

Greetings,

The symptoms of headache, neck pain, puss discharge, very tender area- all suggest development of infection. The stitch area should be checked. Cleaning can be required. Amoxicillin may help. Other antibiotic can be required for infection to be controlled. It is safer to be checked doctor today morning without waiting for another day. If you have any query, please feel free to ask.

It will be my privilege to assist you.
Regards.
