I had an ultrasound of my thyroid, and there is a nodule on the left & nodule on the right. My thyroid is also inflamed. I am experiencing some pain in my right inner ear canal and in the back of my throat on the right side. I am a train wreck because I am a former smoker who smoked on & off for approx. 12yrs. About a pack 1/2 per week. I haven't smoked in eleven years and i was wondering if this is a symptom of cancer. I will be seeing an ENT in about three weeks. They told me that the ultrasound does not look suspicious of cancer though. I am experiencing tremedous anxiety and cannot get the thought of throat cancer or soft tissue cancer out of my mind. How likely or what are the odds that this can be really bad as I am thinking? I am 43 yr old female.

HelloThis is mostly a symptom of anxietyMaybe sore throat from acid refluxPossible ear infection.I don't think any of this is due to cancer.Almost all thyroid nodules [especially those that do not look suspicious on US] are benign.Thyroid nodules, in addition, would not be from throat cancer..just not the way it goes. You can have a skinny needle biopsy of the nodules for peace of mind..and the ENT can also examen your throat to make sure it is clear...good luck
