Itching is not generally a symptom that requires an urgent evaluation, if there are no other symptoms present. If the itching is associated with lung symptoms (shortness of breath, wheezing, or coughing), that would be more worrisome and being seen urgently would be appropriate. Otherwise, it is OK to wait until you get back home. Until you can be seen, there are limited options available over the counter to help with itching. Antihistamines are the usual first-line treatment. Using a hydrating lotion may be helpful. Soaking in a warm salt water bath also may help ease symptoms. There also is a weak steroid cream that is available over the counter that ma help some people.
