Customer Question

Took 1 ativan early one day, that evening I was in a car accident and blood & urine were taken and set to an (IL) state lab for testing to check for DUI. The initial blood test that came back from the hospital said negative for benzos, but will the state submitted forensic lab also show the same? it was either a .5 or 1mg tablet and I hadnt taken any ativan except that one for over a week prior.

This is Dr. David

yes, there is still a chance that the urine screening test will show positive for benzos. the urine will show drugs in the system longer than blood test will.

ativan can be detected in the urine for up to 5 days on screening tests.

The question that I am asking is not how long it stays in your system. Rather how long after initially taking the drug does it take for it to begin showing up in drug screenings. I took ativan for the first time in the morning, I then gave a urine and blood sample later that day - would it already be detectable?

yes, it would be detectable later that day in the urine.

Did not understand my initial question and then followed up with a one line response without providing any details supporting the answer

here is one study

"Urine tested positive for lorazepam over 144 h (2-4 ng/ml), with a peak detected after 24 h exposure (411-880 ng/ml)."

What is the window of detection time of first time use of lorazepam in the urine. Simply put...I took it at 8am, at what time would it be detectable in urine?

"Urine tested positive for lorazepam over 144 h (2-4 ng/ml), with a peak detected after 24 h exposure (411-880 ng/ml)." makes no sense to me or probably most people for that matter

ativan would be detectable in 30-60 minutes in the urine after taking it

so by 9am it would be detectable. and it would be detectable for 5 days after that potentially in the urine for 5-6 days.

Thank you. Lastly, how long after would it be detecatable in blood?

ativan has a half life of 14 hours and so it will be detected in the blood for about 3 days.

Customer replied417 days and 20 hours ago.

UHHHHHHHHG! DO you not understand? HOW LONG WILL IT BEGIN TO SHOW IN A BLOOD TEST AFTER I TOOK THE ATIVAN? I AM ASKING THE EXACT SAME QUESTION AS I DID ABOUT THE URINE..I am not asking how long it stays in your system. when will it begin showing up!
