I am just wondering would a kidney infection clear up by itself or would it always require antibiotics?

DR HASAN :

Hi

DR HASAN :

Thanks for your question

DR HASAN :

Since how long this has been going on?

Customer:

I felt very ill all weekend, went to e.r on monday where they discovered kidney infection. I was given augmentin 500mg, have taken six of the fifteen so far. Just wondering would it clear up without antibiotics as i felt a little better before going to e.r?

DR HASAN :

Do you still have symptoms?

Customer:

Yes but not as bad as weekend.

DR HASAN :

ok thats good

DR HASAN :

Kidney infections can go away without antibiotics but there is always a risk of getting them again and getting complications from the infection

DR HASAN :

I will never suggest you to leave your antibiotics

DR HASAN :

actually augmentin is not a very good choice for kidney infection

DR HASAN :

Moreover i suggest that you should consider taking craneberry juice

DR HASAN :

its very good for such infections

DR HASAN :

your thoughts?

Customer:

I am taking cranberry juice, if there is not more improvement in next day or two should i go back for different antibiotic?

Customer:

Also is a racing heart a symptom of the infection?

DR HASAN :

If there is no improvement then go to your local doctor to get your urine culture done and for that you may have to stop antibiotics

DR HASAN :

this will help in getting targeted antibiotic

DR HASAN :

Racing heart can be due to fever associated with infection

Customer:

Ok thank you very much.

DR HASAN :

i wish you good luck that you get well soon
