Ok, thank you.

I am sorry you have been having a rough past month...
Right sided abdominal pain can be a symptom of several things.. abdominal pain is difficult to precisely diagnose without an exam.

If you have had less frequent bowel movements or any change in your bowel habits (ie alternating constipation and diarrhea, increased gas, more bloating), then you may have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This tends to be worse in times of stress.
Other symptoms of IBS include pain that is relieved once you have a bowel movement, passing mucus with the stools and feeling like you may not have completely gone after having a bowel movement.

Right sided abdominal pain can also be due to gallbladder problems. However, nausea and pain increased after eating a high fat meal are usually present as well. Gallbladder problems can also cause chest pain (in fact, it can occasionally mimic heart attack it is something to consider if you have not been worked up for this since you have had chest pain recently). An ultrasound of the abdomen can be done to rule out gallstones.

Kidney stones are a third cause of sharp, right sided abdominal pain. Typically, this pain is quite severe. Blood in the urine (non-visible or visible) when you are not close to your period would signal this as a potential cause.

Ovarian cysts are a fourth cause.

A follow up with your GP for an ultrasound of the abdomen or a CT (cat scan), urinalysis and blood work would be the first step in working up this new pain.

I hope that you feel better,

so since no other symptoms match those causes the best thing is urine test and ct scan?
Expert:  Dr. Abby replied 4 years ago.
I would do the ultrasound (abdomen/pelvis) first as well as a urine test.
The ultrasound is easier, less expensive and there is no exposure to radiation.
It may still give you an answer.
If normal and pain persists, then I would do the CT scan.
