I woke up this morning with a dark protruding blood vessel around my eye socket. I have no pain,or impaired vision. What could this be?

Hello, Welcome to justanswer and thank you for your question. This condition is termed as Subconjunctival hemorrhage. Well, the exact cause is unknown, but due to sneezing, lifting, vomiting blood vessel can get rupture. The blood in the eye, will get absorbed in 1-2 weeks. No medication is required to do so. But my opinion is that you should be examined by doctor, to rule out any serious bleeding disorder. So please get checked from doctor. Hi--while the other expert is correct about a subconjuntival hemorrhage, that's a red spot in the white of the eyeball. Your description sounded more like a vessel under or around the eye and not in the eye itself. If that's the case, there still may not be anything serious going on, but it could be a sign of high blood pressure or a sinus infection. Either way, unless it resolves, you should have your doctor look at it.
