Dr. Shahzad MD :

Hi there

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Since how long are you having upset stomach with dark green stool?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Since how long are you on pepto bismol and kaopectate?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Was the X 4 days written along with the prescription?

Customer:

no. I have had the symtems for 4 days. pepto bismol and kaopectate were otc,not prescriotin.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Did the dark green or black stool start after you started taking the pepto bismol or before that?

Customer:

before

Dr. Shahzad MD :

The green colored stool is usually nothing to worry about in the vast majority of the cases. The green color of the stool usually indicates that your stool is passing through the intestine faster than normal . The green color is due the bile. As bile makes it way through the intestine it progressively changes its color from green to yellow to brown. When the stool passes through the intestine faster than normal it does not allow time for these changes to occur and the stools are green in color as a result.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Since you are having loose stools which is allowing less time for the change of color to happen, you are therefore having green stools.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Usually this is a harmless condition.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Green stool usually goes away on its own in the vast majority of cases and usually are nothing of concern. If however your symptoms do not improve you may require some tests such as stool tests and you will need to consult your doctor for further evaluation of your condition.

Customer:

does this include dark green stools, and what is the remedy to make my stomach acids slow down to normal?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Customer:

p.s. no diarehia or vomiting.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

I understand that you are may not be having diarrhea

Dr. Shahzad MD :

For the stomach acid you can take over the counterPrilosec 40 mg once daily

Customer:

Also i drink a lot of coffee during the day. should i seek an alternative?

Dr. Shahzad MD :

Drinking things that are green in color and things like pepto bismol can also change the color of the stool into a dark color

Customer:

probably that popsicle i ate on saturday.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

yes that might be it

Customer:

Blue food coloring also seems to have a profound effect on my stool color.

Dr. Shahzad MD :

yes that is also a possibility I agree

Customer:

and grape koolaid or grape soda.

Dr. Shahzad MD :
