My X-Ray of right shoulder showed 1 cm Sclerotic lesion. What

Resolved Question:

My X-Ray of right shoulder showed 1 cm Sclerotic lesion. What does this mean? I am going for MRI. I went to see Pain Physician because I slipped and slowed my fall with my shoulder. I had also previously hurt my shoulder.

I am an orthopedic surgeon and would be glad to help.

A sclerotic lesion means that the bone in the area is dense and that is why it gives a solid shadow on X ray.
This can be due to many different causes which may include old fractures to metastatic lesions in the shoulder bone.
Picture would get clear after the MRI.
You might have had a previous fracture which can show up as an area of sclerosis.

Generally, what percent of time these lesions are benigin? Should I be worried?

Expert:  Dr.Sawhney replied 5 years ago.
In most cases these lesions turn out to be benign.
You should not be worried and wait for the results of MRI to come as that will give a better idea of the nature of lesion.
