Your equilibrium can be related to multiple body systems. The inner ear has a role, thus a viral infection can cause problems. Additionally your cerebellum (back part of your brain) plays a role in balance. Your peripheral nerves play a role, therefore people with diabetes, thyroid problems, etc. sometimes have problems with balance. The last system that plays a role in balance is your visual system, so vision problems for any reason (double vision, blurry vision) can cause problems.

if its a viral infection (viral labyrinthitis) it will resolve in 1-3 days. no treatment since its viral.
If its a viral infection its pretty persistent, most other causes come and go.
