Dr. Sohaib :

Hi, Welcome to Just Answer...

Dr. Sohaib :

Sorry to hear about your problem...

Dr. Sohaib :

Since how long are you having the stomach problem?

Dr. Sohaib :

Any concurrent medical illness like diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease?

Dr. Sohaib :

Medications?

Customer:

symptoms for about a year, plus weight gain, no other illnesses that i know of no medications. Did stop working out because I always feel like im going to vomit or I get shakey, but my doc going to give me a stress test for that after we figure this out.

Dr. Sohaib :

Do you get constipation? Cold intolerance or body swelling?

Customer:

constipation sometimes, mostly regular. Always cold literally wear my coat inside, stomach gets swollen after eating and takes hours to finally go away sometimes overnight.

Dr. Sohaib :

Allright...

Dr. Sohaib :

And when did you have the CT scan done?

Dr. Sohaib :

Did it show any other abnormality other than cysts in the spleen?

Customer:

last wednesday, just the cysts

Dr. Sohaib :

Allright...

Dr. Sohaib :

Your stomach symptoms suggests Acid Peptic Disease clinically, in simple words stomach ulcers due to acidity...

Customer:

I had an endoscopy and an ultrasound last month they found no ulcers

Dr. Sohaib :

This should be evaluated further by means of an endoscopic examination which will exactly visualise the stomach from inside, and give detailed information about the extent and severity of ulcers...

Dr. Sohaib :

Allright...Thats fine...

Dr. Sohaib :

Moreover, your symptoms of weight gain, cold intolerance and constipation also require screening for Hypothyroidism (reduced thyroid hormone levels)...

Dr. Sohaib :

So if that has not been done already, this should be evaluated...

Customer:

had it , no ulcers found, tested for thyroid that came normal too.

Dr. Sohaib :

Finally, splenic cysts can be due to many reasons which include Abscess, Hydatid Cyst, Infarction, hematoma, hemangioma, post traumatic cyst and many others...

Dr. Sohaib :

These differentials should be kept in mind and a further work up including tests for these specifc illness should be performed, as the treatment of the splenic cysts varies depending upon the severity, and the underlying cause...

Customer:

whats the reason for a GI doctor whats he going to do for spleen cyts

Dr. Sohaib :

Well, most probable reason for which you have been referred to a gastroenterologist is because of predominance of your abdominal symptoms...

Dr. Sohaib :

Most likely a re-evaluation would be in plan...

Dr. Sohaib :

But its imperative that these cysts should be evaluated further as these could be the sole reason for your abdominal symptoms...

Customer:

could spleen cysts cause weight gain, what is the treatment for cyts

Dr. Sohaib :

Well, as i already mentioned that the treatment will depend upon the underlying cause..For example if there is abscess, it would be aspirated and treated with antibiotics...If this is hydatid cyst, then it has to be dealt with a specific approach (Puncture, Aspiration, Insuffilation, Resection)...Similarly treatment options for benign nonparasitic splenic cysts include partial splenectomy, total cystectomy, or partial cyst decapsulation...So you can see that the treatment options differ and vary according to the underlying cause...

Customer:

what about weight gain

Dr. Sohaib :

That could be due to many reasons...Simply an imbalance between the caloric intake and the energy expenditure can result in weight gain...

Dr. Sohaib :

A number of endocrinological disorders can also result in weight gain including hypothyroidism (already been ruled out), cushing's disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, growth hormone deficiency and many others...

Dr. Sohaib :

I will suggest that you should try some exercise, and avoid fatty and high caloric meals...The best would be to have a dietician's consultation in order to have a proper dietary plan...This may simply be your tendency to gain weight rather than due to a disease process...

Dr. Sohaib :

I hope this answers your question...

Dr. Sohaib :

Kindest Regards XXXXX XXXXX
