Nowhere else. The finger gets stiff, somewhat swollen and tender to the touch. It appears to be triggered by mechanical stimulation (I am a tenpin bowler). I bowl 15 to 20 games a week. I also have been using a computer mouse a lot lately at work. It involves a lot of mouse clicks searching patient records. Couls I have a fracture and whatever I'm doing is aggravating it ?

Dr Wajid :

Hi

Dr Wajid :

Welcome to just answer

Dr Wajid :

What you are describing is most likely a Trigger finger...

Dr Wajid :

It is a common disorder of later adulthood characterized by catching, snapping or locking of the involved finger flexor tendon, associated with dysfunction and pain.

Dr Wajid :

The cause of trigger finger is usually unknown

Dr Wajid :

Speculation exists that repetitive forceful use of a digit leads to narrowing of the fibrous digital sheath in which it runs...

Dr Wajid :

Injection of the tendon sheath with a corticosteroid is effective over weeks to months in more than half of patients.

Dr Wajid :

When such steroid injections fail, a local surgery can be opted

Dr Wajid :

I would suggest you consult an orthopaedic surgeon for further help in this regard

Dr Wajid :

Thank you
