Resolved Question:

My big toe nail just broke off. I have no pain with it, and did not have an accident to cause it. Any ideas?

Is it bleeding? Red, hot, swollen?

Do you have problems with blood supply to the feet (e.g. peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, etc)?

No pain, no blood. I take medicine for hypertension and diabetes.

Did you have a nail fungal infection? Was the nail thickened, yellow, brittle?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
The nail was thickened, somewhat yellow and maybe a little brittle. I had the other toenail removed because of an ingrown nail about 10 years ago. It has not returned. Is there a medicine I need if it was fungal? Do I need to cover it now or apply it now?

Well, what will happen is that your nail will regrow itself over the next few months.

Often times, the major reasons for toenails falling off are injury to the toenails, problems with blood supply to the toenails, and fungal infections of the toenails.

It seems that you may have had the fungal infection of the toenail.

It would make sense to talk with your doctor to see if that is the case, and there is a medication that can be taken to help treat this fungal infection and get your nails to grow back in normally.
