Resolved Question:

I have difficulty swallowing and shortness of breath. My symptoms range from bothersome some days, to quite severe. Sometimes it feels like there is something in my throat. (If you press two fingers against your throat, it feels like that) I have had a cervical fussion 2 1/2 years ago, and wonder if it could be scar tissue or something related?

Dr Wajid :

Hi

Dr Wajid :

Welcome to just answer

Dr Wajid :

No I do not think that the swallowing problem you have is due to the scar form cervical fusion surgery

Dr Wajid :

Rather I would consider Globus hystericus to be the likely cause of your swallowing difficulties

Customer :

What is that?

Dr Wajid :

Its a persistent sensation of having a feeling of obstruction in the throat when there is none.

Customer :

Do you have any more info?

Dr Wajid :

Swallowing can be performed normally, so it is not a true case of dysphagis but it can become quite irritating.

Dr Wajid :

One may also feel mild chest pain or even shortness of breath when swallowing.

Customer :

So, it's all in my head?

Dr Wajid :

Yes

Customer :

Good bye

Dr Wajid :

Thank you
