Hello,
The black tongue is generally caused by following reasons-
1.Use of antibiotics & some asthma drugs.

2.Bacterial or fungal infection of the tongue

3.Sjogren syndrome

4.Use of pepto bismuth which is used to treat the hyper acidity in stomach.

By looking at your history it looks that you were taking the vyotrin which does contain the ezetimibe ,this may lead to infections which may be the cause of your problem. As you have stopped this drug this problem will be gradually resolves. If it does not improve then you should consult to your dental doctor who may prescribe some anti fungal agents like fluconazole, nystatin or clotrimazole in the form of pastilles or oral tablets.

Hope this will help you.

Could this be from an infection of the lungs? Or just from meds?
Expert:  Dr.tiwari replied 6 years ago.
Although the basic reason behind having black tongue is the growth of small papillae found over the tongue.Which are generally removed by the process of rubbing the tongue either with the tooth brush or with the fibrous diet during the process of chewing so if the proper dental hygiene is not maintained then it may lead to this .

The very first thing you have to do is to maintain the good oral hygiene which can be done by having frequent flossing with a preparation containing chlorhexidine(available OTC).Mostly this will go away by taking these general precautions ,if it does not go away with this then you should consult to your doctor to rule out the other reasons.

Hope this will help you.
