My joints often feel stiff until I pop them. This is becoming

Resolved Question:

My joints often feel stiff until I pop them. This is becoming more and more frequent, particularly in my back, shoulders, and recently hips. This happens throughout the day, sometimes without me trying. I am 27 years old and otherwise healthy. Should I be concerned?

Hi

"Poping" of joints is not something that you need to worry about.

Can you tell me about the stiffness or any pain that you have?

It just seems like they are popping a lot, I feel old, and it has been increasing. No pain, but sometimes, particularly in the morning or when I have been sitting for a while, my knees and back feel like they do not want to straighten. Anything I can do to mitigate this?

Hi

Is the stiffness in the upper or lower back?

Any family history of joint problems?

Upper back mostly. My lower back hurts sometimes when I stand too long, but this is a different issue (I have flat feet.

I think my mother has mild arthritis in her hands, nothing major.

This has been a problem for how long?

Joints have been popping for years, but noticed it getting worse over the last few months

Hi

To be honest if you have been having problems with your upper back I would advise you to see your Dr to have this checked out.

A physical exam ( and possibly some blood work / x-ray ) would be a good idea.

If that checks out OK then a physical therapist would be a good next step.
