My husband has a piece of cooked carrot stuck in his throat

Customer Question

My husband has a piece of cooked carrot stuck in his throat for about 5 hours. He has tried drinking water, coughing and it is not moving. He is breathing fine, just can not lay down. He just eat a 1/2 banana with no problem but the carrot did not move.

What can we do?

Thank you for your question,

Foreign body(food or some other object) stuck in the throat is a medical emergency as it

can go down the airway and block the upper respiratory tract.

So you need to take him to emergency department where they can evaluate the position

of the carrot in the throat, it can be removed by surgical measures easily if it is on the

upper part of the throat.

I hope this answers your question.
