I cant stop yawning. I have an overwhelming urge to yawn

Resolved Question:

I can't stop yawning. I have an overwhelming urge to yawn every 5-15 sec. It's like my body takes control. I didn't think it could be stress, as I take welbutrin, and just had spring break. I had an EKG done and it showed no problems. The last time this happened, I was sent to a cardiologist and was told I had mitral valve prolapse, but it was generally benign. I can't stop. Can anyone offer help? I'm starting to feel like a freak. Everyone notices. I don't get relief unless I'm laying on my right side, and it's not complete relief.

Since you have been investigated thoroughly, there should not be any concern. Please read this resource;

Though yawning is associated with boredom and fatigue, a sudden onset of too frequent yawning should be investigated for the various causes as;

1) cardiac tamponade

2) air hunger due to any reason

3) migraine,

4) raised intracranial tensions

5) progressive supranuclear palsy,

6) multiple sclerosis

7) medications

You can ask your doctor to get an echocardiography and MRI of the brain to rule out above cause too. If these are normal, medication may be the likely cause.
