Customer Question

I had a cold for 3 days and yesterday was diagnosed with bronchitis at Medexpress . I was prescribed a "Z" pack and started that treatment yesterday. I am also taking a prescription night time cough syrup. My son asked me if I can watch my 20 month old grandson tomorrow. Am I contagious? I'm coughed occasionally and am not having a lot of mucous. I haven't sneezed and only blow my nose occasionally. By the way, I'm 67.

Thank you for your time and answer.

Hi.
Welcome to JustAnswer. I shall try my best to assist you while you are corresponding with me.

20 months is a very tender age and babies are prone to catch viral and bacterial infections at this age very easily. If you have to visit your grandson tomorrow then I suggest that you refrain from kissing him. You should wash your hands thoroughly with soap. Try wearing a small face mask, the kind doctors and surgeons wear. That will prevent any aerosol or droplet infection from reaching him. Since, you have started treatment and are on antibiotics, it will take atleast 2 to 3 days for your infection to be controlled and for you to be completely uncontagious.

Refrain from coughing in the vicinity of the baby if you have to see him.

Hope this helps.

-Regards.

Just a quick note...thanks again for your answer. I just got a reprieve from babysitting, my son's sister in law will be available to watch the baby. Now I'll just work on getting over this bronchitis!

Glad you're only a computer away from helping us!
