When I swallow, I feel like I have a pocket in my throat that catches pills, or food and liquids sometimes. What causes this?
do you have problems with swallowing?
have you ever regurgitated undigested food?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
yes, sometimes. Pills most of the time. and yes.
Dear Customer,

I am sorry to know about your symptoms,

Based on what you mentioned,I will advise that you ask your physician to do a physical exam, barium swallow to rule out zenker diverticulum(esophageal pouch) as that would present with similar symptoms.
Ask the physician also to rule out achalsia(esophageal motility disorder) as it may present with difficulty swallowing so ask the physician to do manometry to rule it out.

Thank you. My dr. did get me in right away for the barium thing. I don't know the result's, yet. What is manometry?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
What is done for that and what is manometry?
Manometry is a procedure where a thin, pressure-sensitive tube is passed through your mouth or nose and into your stomach. Once in place, the tube is pulled slowly back into your esophagus. This will help check the motility problems. The purpose of esophageal manometry is to see if the esophagus is contracting and relaxing properly.

Is this what they call a scope?
No dear, scope is put for endoscopy not for manometry.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Endoscopy? meaning bottom not top? But manometry is top side? Throat.
colonoscopy is from bottom to check colon, endoscopy is from up(mouth) to check esophagus, stomach and some part of intestine.Manometry too is done from top.

Then what? Thank you.
