A kidney stone can decrease in size by alkalanizing the urine. This can be done by increasing fluid intake, taking potassium citrate or taking allopurinol. Small stones can pass out without any intervention even on increasing your fluid intake. Also decreasing protein intake in normal diet sometimes helps in decreasing stone size. This is true for oxalate stone. But if despite all efforts, the stone does not decrease in size, then you might need intervention.
