can electronic cigarettes cause pneumonia?
Optional Information: Gender: MaleAge: 22 Already Tried: I have smoked for a while and was wondering if "e-cigs" are safe.
They would probably not cause lung infection, but they may cause lung inflammation especially that in addition to nicotine vapor they contain propylene glycol and glycerol and many other additives including flavorings, and may contain nitrosamines which are toxic. This inflammation may lead to secondary infection.
i know propylene glycol is a water based chemical. i asked one of the companies directly and they told me i would be inhaling water vapor into my lungs. with my lungs already being damaged by cigarettes, would a water vapor cigarette be a good idea?
It's not just water vapor, it a mixture of chemicals. They are misleading you. In any case, you should not inhale anything into your lungs other than air (with water vapor that is in it naturally).
why is this being ignored by the fda?
Is this a separate question? Because you have not accepted any of my answers yet.
i don't think it is a separate question. it's the same topic and directly affects your answer. how can i accept your answer if the food and drug administration disagrees with you?
It is a separate question. Your original question was "can electronic cigarettes cause pneumonia?" and I answered it. FDA does not disagree with me. They issued a warning; here is a link for your perusal: http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm173222.htm
