Cannot bend my thumb without a pain. Please advice.

Resolved Question:

Can't bend my thumb without a lot of pain.
If I do bend it by accident, when I straighten it out it pops back into place instead of smooth action. Can bend it without pain if I push it down with my other hand. Can bend it back and forth this way without pain.

Do you remember if you received an injury at any time near the thumb or wrist?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.

No. No injuries to the wrist or thumb.

Expert:  Dr Bhumika replied 7 years ago.

To me this seems like an injury to the tendon of the thumb. Have you noticed any swelling?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
Very little. This condition has been like this for about 2 months.
Expert:  Dr Bhumika replied 7 years ago.

I would have advised an X-ray very early in such cases. A damage to the tendon and the bone should be repaired as soon as possible.

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
I really can't see how this could be since I didn't injure my wrist or thumb.
Expert:  Dr Bhumika replied 7 years ago.

That is true and that is why I asked you earlier.

However, the fact is that unless this is tested and examined one would not know. This does not seem like an internal disorder. Pain and decreased mobility are hallmarks of fracture.

What about a bone spurr?

Expert:  Dr Bhumika replied 7 years ago.
That is also a possibility but you would have noticed a swelling in that case.

Thank you for your help. I'll be going to my doctor. More than likely she will order x-rays for this condition.

Tried my best. You are welcome.
