Margaret,
Thanks.
The aspirin is probably making it bleed a bit more easily..
Make sure that he tilts his head forward if it is bleeding heavily. This will keep him from swallowing the blood. The blood could make him nauseated.
A couple things to try...
He can use a clean cloth and apply pressure to the area for 5 minutes without stopping to look to see if the bleeding is done. As tempting as it is to look, don't stop for 5 minutes. If after 5 minutes, it is still bleeding, repeat it for 5 minutes.
You can also apply ice to the tongue. This helps the blood vessels constrict, which will help lessen the bleeding.
He can try a wet tea bag if the above doesn't work.
If you see a large cut/tear in the tongue, he may need stitches, but usually people don't bite their tongues that badly.
Hope that is helpful for you.

Thank you so much . the tongue has now stopped bleeding. How long before he can drink? Is it best to leave eatng until tomorrow? Thank you

You are welcome,
I would let him drink cool fluids and see how it goes.
I think he can have soft foods if there is not any bleeding over the next 3-4 hours.
If it starts bleeding again, just repeat the process again
Avoid any acidic foods and salty foods.
