Customer Question

Can Antibiotics effect platelet count?

Yes, a number of antibiotics can lead to low platelet count, or thrombocytopenia.

Antibiotics which are implicated in this include sulfonamides, chloremphenicol, vancomycin, and piperacillin.

In particular, cholemphenicol, which is an older generation of drug, and Vancomycin, which is one of the most recent drugs, is known to cause this. Link.
