The auto focus in my 2010 Mazda 3 quit working awhile back.

Customer Question

The auto focus in my 2010 Mazda 3 quit working awhile back. Now, the parking lights turned on by themselves and the only way to shut them down was by disconnecting the battery. Could that all be caused by the AFS on/off switch on the dash or would the headlight switch on the steering column also need replaced?

CHECK THIS TAIL RELAY FIRST R 13 in that diagram

then we can go forward, could be the switch or the connector at the tsail light , short to ground ,plus start with relay

Thank you, ***** ***** that diagram is fuzzy and not legible. Not sure where R13 is?

The relay box doesn't look like that. Here's a picture of it.
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
It hasn't been on a diagnostic machine yet. Was hoping to fix it at home if possible. On the edge? Not sure what you mean, but the mileage is near 115,000.
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

It is the same fuse box, just looks weird to you on this diagram regardless

it will be bottom left in the picture you sent me

R13

It is the small blue relay next to the 80 amp fuse with clear lens on it

It will be bottom left if i i m looking at your picture

I m sorry the edge reference was a typo meant mazda 3

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Thank you. Can identify it now, but don't know how to tell if it's bad.
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

you can buy a relay tester online or auto parts they are not expensive

or swapped with a known good one, number must match

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Is a special tool required to remove the relay?Forgot yo mention that the headlights do the autofocus sequence upon starting the car, but then they don't continue to operate. So they ARE capable of movement.
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 3 months ago.

no , not to remove it

well it could be , the relay is opening after few secs from closing, if relay is bad or the auto headlight motor ,the module ,etc...
