We have a 2006 Mazda miata. It needed an engine so we bought

Customer Question

Hi we have a 2006 Mazda miata. It needed an engine so we bought one and I came from a 2009 miata. We now have a problem. The new engine wont start as the spark is weak. I have been told my tech pulled out the crankshaft pulley and it caused it to jump timing could this be true? Additional info: We swapped the intake manifold, throttle body and it has the 2006 wire harness. also we made sure not to cross the Ecu plugs.

hows compression?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
compression results (200,205,205,210)
Expert:  john aka eauto replied 6 months ago.

i think if it jumped time you would not have great compression

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
gotcha. we thought it to be very weird it would cause it to jump just by removing that. Do you know if this 09 engine is able to run in the 06 without modifications.

is this a stick or auto?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
My tech say he believes it jump. could you show us how to rest correctly. I apologize the compression results was from something else he say the compression is 120 to 160. is that too low?
Customer: replied 6 months ago.
automatic.
Expert:  john aka eauto replied 6 months ago.

120 and 160 something is going on all should be within 10percent...id check timing marks

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Okay we will check timing on Monday. so you would say this engine swap is okay for this miata to be an 06 and have a 09.

according to the interchange no...not sure whats different ill research it

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
okay thanks. according to my research the 09 engine has two vacuum sensors and the 06 has one. and also the crankshaft pulley cant be pulled out on the 09 without affecting the timing. the 06 it doesn't affect the timing. also one other plug on the 09 but no sensor to plug into it but it shouldn't affect the spark.

with your compression issue..it sounds like timing is off

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
Could you by any chance supply diagrams to help with the timing?
Expert:  john aka eauto replied 6 months ago.
