Mazda rx7: my 1982 mazda rx7 goes through one quart of oil

Customer Question

my 1982 mazda rx7 goes through one quart of oil every 300 miles with no smoke coming out of the tail pipe and I can't see any leaking eather. When I don't run it for a couple of weeks oil smoke comes off the exhaust pipe where it goes into the engine

Hi Ronald,300 miles is high, 1000 miles per quart would be about normal. The rotary engine is like a two stroke and by design consumes more oil than a four stroke.I would say time for another engine.Gary
