I own a 2004 Mazda RX8 that I brought to the dealership

Customer Question

I own a 2004 Mazda RX8 that I brought to the dealership today for several issues. First of all, I have the following codes: P0133 O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response Bank 1 Sensor 1 P2259 Secondary Air Injection System Control "B" Circuit Low P0420 Catalyst
System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1 The recommended fixes for those 3 codes are: Catillitic converter N343-20-55XA $1430.80 + 3-5 days labor - $1430.89 Gasket N3-H1-40-305 - $18.90 (Together above) = $1,800.00 O2 sensor (upstream) - N3H3-18-8G1A - $364.81
+ labor + tax = $575 Total to resolve 3 codes = $2375.81 Next issue was that the door locks _DO_ respond to the keyless remote but they are weak and do not always move enough to open the door. Recommended fixes: Keyless Control Module FE43-67-502A - $605.56
+ labor + tax = $780 Solenoid - KL01-18-741 = $145.72 Left door lock FE01-59-310D - $166.76 + 1 day Right door lock FE02-58-301D $163.70 + 1 day (Two above + tax) = $700 Total to resolve door locks: $925 I do not agree that the wireless control module needs
to be replaced if the remotes work today 100% reliably. Please advise. As for the 3 codes, do you agree in all of that work? Or should I just do the Catalytic or just the O2? Thanks

Hello, I'm Brandon - mazda tech.

Yes replacement cataytic converter will fixed the 3 codes. I agreed. Typically P0420 means the cataytic is bad and the only solution is to replace it.

Since you are doing the converter you should also replace the oxygen sensor at the same time. It is all related to each other.

I do not agree on replacing the wireless control module.

They should only charge you 2.5 hour labor time.
