Discovered oil pooling on top of head between two center

Customer Question

Discovered oil pooling on top of head between two center spark plugs of 2008 2.3L engine. There's a threaded hole dead center between the spark plugs with nothing in it. Is something missing, or am I looking at a bad gaske?
Thanks in advance,
Jimn

Hi Jim
Okay with the plastic cover removed and where the plugs and coils sit on top of the valve cover is engine oil between the two inner plugs and coils .
Or do you mean with the coils and plugs removed there is oil in the plug holes..
Greg

It's pooling on the cover surface where the plugs screw in from #2 to #3 plugs.

Okay sound strange this is why i wanted to have a photo ,as i can only see it coming from where oil was poured in the oil hole and some dripped down but you would have a trail from the left to the middle .

The area between 1 & 2 plug and 3 & 4 plug is dammed off by the casting. Oil is pooling around 2 & 3 plugs and the flat area between.

Okay can you pull the coils and plugs and check if there is oil in the tubes .
You do have the engine with the four coil on the four plugs , and not cables , 2008 should have coils on plugs .

Coils is correct. No oil in tubes. Just around plugs and surface between 2 & 3 plug.

Wow Jim .
Was going to say valve cover gasket with plug hose seals, but that's not it .
Is it clean or dirty oil .does it look like its come from the engine,
intake manifold got any signs of oil in it .
Greg

No smoking or dripping. Oil looks like typical 5000 mile oil change. Nothing in ccoolant Minor oil consumption between oil changes.

Hi Jim
Clean up the oil and do a regular weeks drive and see if it has pooled up again of oil in that area.
Do you have the plastic cover still fitted .
Greg
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Plastic cover is on. It's cleaned up now, so driving again should help.

Okay let me know if more oil pools up after a few days .
