I have a 1993 mazda miata, problem is lack of power and pressure build up in engine which blows oil into the exhaust system and leaks oil on floor below the engine. Local mechanic does not have machines to diagnose., Help or recommend a servicing dealer to repair., someone said its blow back????
Country: United StatesMake: MazdaModel: MiataYear: 1993 Already Tried: Remove catalytic converter, muffler system, new spark plugs.,loses power on slight incline
All he needs to test that is a compression tester or leakdown tester. Surely he has those. If not probably ANY other shop will.
What will this test tell the mechanic and what will be required to remedy the situation
It will tell him if the rings are washed out (Which they probably are) and if they are it will need a rebuild.
If the compression test comes up low have him squirt some oil in the cylinders and redo it
Would you recommend taking the car to a foreign car mechanic. The mechanic at the local garage has no books or details on a mazda vehicle.
I would recommend taking it to someone besides him. A compression test on that car is no different than any other car. If he uses alldata or mitchell or anything he should have plenty of information on a mazda.
This vehicle has 119,000 miles on it., would that mileage have an effect on the washed out rings.
Also could you give me some idea what the cost of a rebuild would be.,
It shouldn't. Thats not exceptionally high miles for that engine
Depending on your area a rebuild could cost 1000 to 2000 usually
You can probably pick up a used one for 500 or so and have it put in for about the same.
So around 1000 total.
I am currently going to another shop to verify the information you sent. This mechanic offers foreign car repairs.
Or do you think I should go to a Mazda dealer in Butler or Erie, Pa
Any competent mechanic should be able to do it. You don't need any specialty shop or anything.. just someone with a compression tester which every mechanic should have.
