normanahoyt :

Hello, my name is XXXX XXX I am here to assist you

Vehicle Application:
1992 B2600 2.6
Customer Concern:
Starts and runs a short time cold and then dies. Won't restart until it cools.
Average Reported Mileage:
200000
Tests/Procedures:
1. Check strength of spark at the plugs - look for a good 1/2 inch minimum nice strong blue spark.

2. Put a timing light on the #1 spark plug wire and check ignition timing to see if firing consistently in time.

3. If ignition is erratic, scope the Pink wire at the distributor and look for a consistent 0-5 volt square wave signal.

4. Check fuel pressure.

5. Check for 5.0 volt reference at the Throttle Position Sensor on the Brown/White wire.

6. Disable the fuel system and see if the engine starts and runs fine on supplemental fuel.
normanahoyt :

Almost without fail the symptoms you describe are caused by a failed ECM. The ecm is behind the right side kick panel and once you get it out and open it up you should be able to see a burnt spot on the circuit board. If you google the part number you will find many rebuilt ecms for it.

normanahoyt :
