I have a Furuno 1835C which has worked trouble free.

Customer Question

I have a Furuno 1835C which has worked trouble free for years. Recently, when I select Radar and Standby, I get a countdown..When I hit TX, it starts to rotate and give an image, then shuts off and restarts the entire unit. What is the problem? I can't find that sort of thing in the troubleshooting guide.

Hi, thank you for contacting My name is Russell. I will do my best to provide the right answer to your question.

I suggest that as a first stage in troubleshooting, you disconnect the radar transponder or radome from the Furuno device.

Then turn the Furuno device On.

See if it now functions without erratic behavior or freezing-up/locking-up.

- If it does (even though of course the radar won't work, that way) then you may have a defective radar transponder, or a defective cable leading to it - perhaps. There's more to test if that seems to be indicated, of course.

- If it doesn't, though, then you have an apparently defective Furuno device.

Turns out I will not get to the boat until Thursday evening. I'll contact you by Friday and tell you what I discovered.
