I suggest that as a first stage in troubleshooting, you disconnect the radar transponder or radome from the Furuno device.
Then turn the Furuno device On.
See if it now functions without erratic behavior or freezing-up/locking-up.
- If it does (even though of course the radar won't work, that way) then you may have a defective radar transponder, or a defective cable leading to it - perhaps. There's more to test if that seems to be indicated, of course.
- If it doesn't, though, then you have an apparently defective Furuno device.
