Customer Question

My macbook air seems to keep the screen too dark for me to read easily. I started doing this a few days ago.
JA: What OS X (Operating System, e.g. Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, etc.) or iOS are you runninng?
Customer: Using 10.9.5--not sure which one that is..
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: Norton antivirus updates and one for Microsoft Word
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Checked the preferences to see if it was somehow set to darker or the screensaver was kicking in early. It seems to lighten up if I had outside light (like a window behind me)
JA: Anything else you want the Mac expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: don't think so

Hi there and welcome

Can you do the following please

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Find Command (⌘), Option, P, and R on your keyboard.
  3. Turn on your Mac.
  4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys immediately after you hear the startup sound.
  5. Hold these keys until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for a second time.
  6. Release the keys.

Then tell me if it improves please
