I received and iPad Air as a gift and went through the steps to set it up. The first time i shut it down and when to restart it was locked out. It keeps asking for my passcode and when i enter it it doesnt'accept it. What do I do. I'm totally locked out.
JA: What OS X (Operating System, e.g. Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, etc.) or iOS are you runninng?
Customer: Windows vista
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: just normal updates i recieve from Sony for my Vaio.
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: since i cant unlock the ipad how do I trouble shoot it??

The only way to bypass the passcode is to perform a factory reset:

  1. From a computer, go to icloud.com/find.
  2. If prompted, sign in with your Apple ID.
  3. Click All Devices at the top of your browser window.
  4. Select the device you want to erase.
  5. Click Erase [device] to erase your device and its passcode.
  6. Now you can restore from a backup.
