I can not open it.
JA: What OS X (Operating System, e.g. Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, etc.) or iOS are you runninng?
Customer: My I pad is approximately 5 years old; do not know the model #
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: Not to my knowledge although I usually do when advised.
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: Pushing buttons to open and leaving on charger to make sure its charged.
JA: Anything else you want the Mac expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: dont think so

First we can reset your iPad and see if it works or not. Press and hold down the Power button and Home button at the same time until it shows the Apple logo. When you see the Apple logo, release the buttons and let it boot.

Note : Power button is the button you use to turn off your iPad or its screen. Home button is the round button at front bottom.
