How's it going.
Let me read of your question. Give me a minute.

Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

You're having troubles backing up, is this correct?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
it is
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I just paid $30 for this despite the fact I was told, the system would only charge me $5
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
It would be nice if we could get audio to clarify some of this and more importantly, figure out what's going on and get it resolved
Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

$5 is a deposit. The $30 is for the answer to the question.

I'm sorry for the confusion, would you like me to refund this

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
well if you can help, I this I'm glad to let you give it a go :)
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
btw, I just reformatted my drive
Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

Are you happy with these costs, If you are we can continue.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I am if we can solve this of course.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I had budgeted $50 but $30 is even better :)
Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

the identity of my backup drive keeps on changing despite the fact I do not do anything to it.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I have an external drive connected to my latest gen airport extreme for Time machine backup purposes.
Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

You mean the name of the drive?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I called it CylonBackup
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
it is hooked up to my Airport Extreme and I do the backups over wifi
Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

When a drive is set as a back-up drive MAC OS changes it so t can be identified. Is this not what you mean?

This is by design.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I'm not sure but Im getting the message the Identity of the backup disk has changed since the previous backup
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
as a result, I have to once again select the drive and at that point, instead of an incremental, it proceeds to do a full backup
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
this process goes on over an over. At some point, I had enough of it and decided to skip backup altogether. But I am resolved to see it through today
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Is this something you may be able to help with ?
Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

This is normal, are you chasing the name of it?

For security, Time Machine won’t do a backup if it detects that the identity of your backup disk has changed. This can happen for several reasons:

  • You erased or reformatted your backup disk or partition.

  • You deleted the disk image for your backup disk.

  • You attached another disk to your Mac with the same name as your backup disk.

  • Someone is trying to steal your information by tricking your Mac into backing up to an unauthorized disk.

If you attach another disk to your Mac, give it a different name from your backup disk. Then make sure your backup disk is correctly identified. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Time Machine. Reselect your backup disk.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
In fact, I haven't changed the name of the drive (why would I ?)
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I did not make any changes to it and the drive it file away in a hard to reach location, hooked up to my Airport Extreme (latest Generation).
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I don't understand why I get some messages when I do not make configuration changes to my mac or the drive
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
now the last point (Someone is trying to steal your information by tricking your Mac into backing up to an unauthorized disk.) is an interesting one. I would not know nothing about it.
Expert:  Kris R replied 7 months ago.

Does your Airport have a static ip address?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
what can I do to allow you to help you get this resolved as fast as you can ?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Let me check for the status IP address
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I don't think so. It is connected to the router and it is generating the router IP address
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I'm going to let you in for $5
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
let me check my account
Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

I can help you by remote

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Hi Mike
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
the previous guy, Kevin T offered to do it for an additional $5 on top of the $30 I just paid for.
Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

If you have erased the drive then you have to start all your backups over by removing the previous backup drive from Time Machine Preferences

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Is this something you can do ?
Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

Kevin opted out

Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

I made an offer do you see it?

Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

I lowered the price.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
great ! Thanks.
Does this mean I get a refund on the previous $30 I just paid ?
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Especially since the first guy was not able to solve the issue ?
Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

No I have no access to your account or what you have paid but the Remote Service is extra and on top of the original cost. None of us are paid yet

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I understand. But here is the thing, what did the $30 do for me ? As I see it, nothing at all. The did did not do anything nor provide steps I(I was not aware of) to resolve my issue.
Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I'm sorry to get into the financials like that but it would be nice to have things clarified.
Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

Right no expert gets paid until you rate OK or higher or Accept the Premium Service offer. Which is me now the other expert opted out

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Ok, I already have $30 withdrawn from my Paypal. I need to add $20 more to get this issue resolved, else, I loose the money I initially paid a few hours ago. Is that correct ?
Expert:  Mike replied 7 months ago.

I get paid and the site gets paid if you are satisfied. The original amount is just amended to add the remote service. Do you want to do that? Your satisfaction is guaranteed you do not lose anything either way.
