Not playing nice with canon scanner, 10.7.5. it worked last

not playing nice with canon scanner
JA: What OS X (Operating System, e.g. Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, etc.) or iOS are you runninng?
Customer: 10.7.5. it worked last week today I tried it and says Failed to Open A Session. I went o cannon and downloaded sept versions of drivers for Canon mf8580cdw and installed. Still fails to open. Prints fine from computer tho
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: updates to what?
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: deleting from printer list, turning on and off printer and retarting computer, adding scanner with typing manually IP addy
JA: Anything else you want the Mac expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I dont think so?

You should be using Canon Scanner Driver & Utilities V2.8.1 for Mac OSX 10.7.5

What version are you using?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I downloaded all Recommended downloads and drivers. Same issue. "Failed to open a session on the device" whether or not I try from the Print/Scan dialog, Preview (which worked just fine last week and nothing on my end changed!) or MF Toolbox. I have only scanned using Preview and none of the options work now.

Ok, then it may be a permissions issue.

Try repairing the Disk Permissions on the Mac and let me know if that helps:

1. Close all applications.

2. On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.

3. Double-click Disk Utility.

4. Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.

5. Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.

6. Restart the Mac.
