Hello Katy, and thank you for choosing JUSTANSWER.com
Using the search feature built into windows, is the best way.
Have 2 windows open side by side, will let you compar folders, and you can rearrange it by NAME, SIZE, DATE, TYPE, etc etc
I would be happy to show you on a remote session.....if you are up for it?
Hi there - there are 1000's of files so this would take a lot of time...is there not an automated tool for this?
There is Duplicate file finders.......and that would be logical way.
Copy every image file you have......and then do a duplicate file finder.
Remove the duplicates, and you have a single set of all images.
But there is an inherent problem with this.
Say you have 2 files.
One called Image_259.jpg
and the other called Picture_12.jpg
Now both files are a picture of the SAME exact thing.
Matter of fact it is the SAME picture just put on there twice.......it was copied around, or it was downloaded twice....got copied and renamed.....maybe it was slighty edited and then resaved (which makes a copy in a diff name)
Now the problem is that the duplicate file finder will NOT knwo its the same picture......it only looks at the file name.....and its different....not duplicate.......so its not flagged, and therefore not removed. Leaving a duplicate image.
Thats the inherent problem
So, you would have to do a couple different things.
First do a file duplicator search, and remove duplicates.
THEN, run an image duplicate search......and that can take a LONG time with SO MANY images to go through.
As the image duplicate search is much more indepth, and uses a LOT or CPU power.
OK thanks for the input....are you sure there isnt a tool that can do this?
Yes there is, I found an articel that shows the 5 best FREE image duplicate removal tools.
Choose one, and if you have any questions on what to do or how....let me know.
But be careful with FREEware.....when you install it.....it might try to sneek in another program, or try to change your home page.
So READ what is presented.

Oh wait, i noticed you are on a MAC.
There really isnt as much for a mac as there is for Windows.
But i did find this:
Or search the Mac App Store for a app called "Photos Duplicate Cleaner"
Heres the link to the Photos Duplicate cleaner on the Mac App Store
One of the few duplicate image apps in the app store
As i mentioned.....there isnt much for a mac in this area.
But give that one a try......let me know.
