Hi, I'm Ashik. Welcome to JustAnswer. I'm reviewing your question now, and will post back with your reply ASAP
Could you please give me the serial number of your Mac ? So I can check if it can support latest OS X. Go to Apple > About This Mac and you can find the serial number there
That is a 2011 Macbook Pro and it support latest OS X. What happens when you download it ? Are you getting any errors ?
Yes, your Mac can handle it. Go to App Store, click on Updates and do you see a line filling in with blue color and a timer ?
El Capitan is 6+GB file and it may take a while to download. How fast is your connection ?
Go to www.speedtest.net
Run the tests and let me know the Download speed
If it is downloaded, then it should bring the Mac OS X Installer automatically. Click on Finder icon on dock, then click on Go menu at the top bar and select Applications. This will open Applications folder. If it is downloaded, then you will see Install OS X file there. Open it and follow the instructions to install. Let me know how it goes
Do you see "Install OS X" file in Applications folder ?
It is asking for the administrator or login password. Don't you know it ?
It is not same as Apple ID password.
Try leaving it blank and hit OK.
If it still not working, please let me know
Are you not the administrator of your Mac ? Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups (or Accounts). What does it say under your account ? Standard or Administrator ?
Great ! It may take up to 2 hours to complete the process. Make sure you leave it connected to charger.
