Is it a mac, a windows computer, an ipad, an iphone?

iMac, 20-inch, Early 2008, Running Mac OS 10,10.5. The problem is logging on to the system to modify software, in this case to upgrade system software.

Aha. so its her admin password ***** shes missing.

If you follow Procedure 3 on this page, using the recovery partition.. You can reset the password ***** the terminal / command line.

Just follow through methodically and it will walk you through the process of resetting, and setting a new password.

What about the user name?

After you reset the password.. And you have a working password.

You can then set a new username using the system preferences, users and groups screen as shown in this link
